Tigers season ends with 56 - 51 overtime loss to Redhounds

The Tigers basketball season came to an end Saturday afternoon with a disappointing 56 – 51 overtime loss to the defending 13th Region Champion Corbin Redhounds at the Arena in Corbin.

Lady Tigers advance with 36 - 33 win over Lady Redhounds

The Clay County Lady Tigers continued their run through the 13th Region Tournament with a 36 – 33 win over the Lady Redhounds of Corbin.

Hooker's buzzer-beating shot lifts Tigers over Black Bears, 62 - 61

The game set up like it was scripted out of Hollywood. A veteran coach who is a local basketball hero brings his new team to the Region Tournament to take on his former team and it’s first-year head coach.

Of course, in Hollywood, the game would be a back-and-forth affair with the old veteran’s team hitting the winning basket at the buzzer. And for five seconds, it looked like that was just about how the game would end. The only problem, of course, is that somebody forgot to tell John Vernon Hooker and the Clay County Tigers about the script.

Lady Tigers advance with 57 – 26 win over Lady Mountain Lions

It was the TaLaura Mathis show in the Arena at Corbin Tuesday night. The seventh grader led all scoring with 18 points on six 3-pointers as the Lady Tigers (24 – 6) cruised to a 57 – 26 win over the Pineville Lady Mountain Lions (13 – 18) in the opening round of the 13th Region Tournament.

The Clay County Cheerleaders continue their tradition of exellence with another District Championship in 2010!

Tigers outclaw Jaguars, 67 - 51

The Clay County Tiger (21 – 9) took to the court in front of a near capacity crowd at Bobby Keith Gymnasium Saturday night and came away with a 67 – 51 victory over the North Laurel Jaguars (15 – 15) in the 49th District Championship Game.

The win marks the first 49th District Championship for first-year Head Coach, Robert Marcum.

Lady Tigers outmaneuver Lady Generals, 74 - 36

The Clay County Lady Tigers (23-6) moved one step closer to their goal of heading back to Bowling Green for the Sweet Sixteen Tournament with a convincing 74 – 36 win over the Jackson County Lady Generals (13 – 16) in the 49th District Championship Friday night at Bobby Keith Gymnasium.

The win marked the sixth consecutive District Championship for the Lady Tigers.

Tigers prove to be too much for undermanned Cardinals

Stevie Ray Vaughn used to sing, “If the house is a rockin’ don’t bother knockin’.” Well the Tigers (20 – 9) certainly had Bobby Keith Gymnasium rockin’ in a lopsided 108 – 26 victory over the undermanned Red Bird Cardinals (7 – 12) on a night when most Cardinals fans probably wish they hadn't come knockin'.

The 82-point spread in Wednesday night's 49th District Tournament game was the largest margin of victory for the Tigers and the first time the team hit the triple digit mark in scoring this season.
