Pickup truck collides with school bus / McCreary County

(LONDON, KY.) – On Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at approximately 3:59 PM, the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, received a report of a two vehicle traffic crash on Mill Creek  in McCreary County.

Upon arrival Trooper Shaler Jones determined that a 1994, Toyota, pickup, operated by Toby Eldridge, 30, of Somerset, was traveling south west, at a high rate of speed, when it failed to negotiate a curve and struck a 2006, International, school bus, operated by Fayrene Goodin , 39, of Parkers Lake.

The school bus was stopped near the 4 mile marker, with the stop sign and lights activated, with a juvenile passenger departing.  The operator of the bus saw the truck approaching and quickly stopped the child from departing the bus just prior to impact.

The bus driver and two students were treated for very minor injuries at the scene.

The driver of the truck was arrested and charged with operating on suspended drivers license, along with other traffic related offenses and unrelated arrest warrants for flagrant non-support.

A passenger in the pickup truck, Christopher Mitchell, 32, of Parkers Lake, was also arrested for alcohol intoxication.

Both occupants of the pickup were lodged in the McCreary County Detention Center.

Trooper Jones is in charge of the investigation and was assisted by officers of the McCreary County Sheriff’s Department, the McCreary County EMS and the Eagle Sawyer Fire Department.
