Burglary and Wanton Endangerment arrest Saturday in Laurel County

The suspect was inside and charged toward the door carrying an AR 15 rifle

Laurel County, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Sgt. John Inman along with Deputy Shannon Jones arrested Michael Trenton Philpot age 23 of Hopkins Cemetery Roa., London early Saturday morning January 6, 2018 at approximately 2:17 AM.

The arrest occurred off Laurel River Road, approximately 6 miles south of London as deputies conducted an investigation into a disturbance that had occurred at both Laurel River Road (at an ex girl friend's residence where the suspect allegedly destroyed items there and had left the scene) and on Hopkins Cemetery Road later where the suspect and another individual were involved in an altercation where the suspect had fallen busting his lip and putting a knot on his head and had left apparently in a reported intoxicated state, driving a white Chevy pickup truck and possibly headed back to the ex girlfriend's residence.

Deputies traveled to Laurel River Road to attempt to locate the white pickup truck to conduct a welfare check on the ex-girlfriend, locating it there.

Deputies continued their investigation to check on the well-being of resident at the home and upon knocking at the door, the suspect was inside and charged toward the door carrying an AR 15 rifle.

Deputies attempted to get the suspect to drop the weapon, however he would not. Deputies continued to try to get the suspect to drop the weapon as the suspect threatened he was going to kill officers.

After several minutes, the suspect dropped the weapon and scuffled with deputies before being taken into custody.

The ex girlfriend was not at home when the suspect broke into the residence.

The ex girlfriend who lives at that residence told deputies this subject was not supposed to be at the residence and had probably entered the residence through a rear window.

Michael Trenton Philpot was charged with wanton endangerment – first-degree; burglary – first-degree; terroristic threatening – first-degree; criminal mischief – first-degree; menacing; resisting arrest.

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
