Two arrests in Laurel County during a drug investigation

Laurel County, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Detective Jason Back, along with Capt. Chuck Johnson, Lieut. Greg Poynter, and Deputy Bryon Lawson arrested two individuals on Friday afternoon January 5, 2018 at approximately 4:32 PM.

The arrest occurred off Jervis Road, approximately 5 miles west of London after the Sheriff's office received a drug complaint and conducted a drug investigation there--- detectives and deputies noted that a three-year-old male answered the door and when he did they detected the odor of marijuana.

Detectives and deputies discovered 2 adults caring for a three-year-old, a two-year-old and a 16-year-old.

Deputies located the 2 adults in possession of suspected crystal meth, and 2 glass pipes and learned through investigation that the two adults there had allegedly smoked meth and marijuana while the children were under their supervision.

Arrested was:

  • Emmit Lee Waddle age 50 of Jervis Road, London charged with possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – second offense – methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia; two counts of criminal abuse first-degree – child 12 or under; and criminal abuse – first-degree.
  • Karen Keith age 53 of Falls City Road, London charged with two counts of criminal abuse – first-degree – child 12 or under and possession of marijuana.
  • These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

    The children were released to other family members.
