UPDATE - Arrest made in Armed Robbery case / Harlan County

(Harlan, Ky.) - On July 24, 2012 at approximately 07:00 a.m., Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan received a call of an armed robbery on U.S.119 in the Wallins Community of Harlan County.

According to the victim, Kelley Smith, two white males walked into the middle of the roadway in front of him while he was driving toward Harlan on U.S.119. One of the individuals entered into the passenger seat and demanded Smith drive to Longton Road and stop the vehicle. According to the victim, he was assaulted and ordered to exit the vehicle after being threatened with a knife.

Kentucky State Police Post 10 are looking for the stolen vehicle, a Gray 2006 4-door Nissan Altima, with the Friends of Coal tag number 9635DM.

The only description the victim could give was two white males, wearing t-shirts and shorts.

Mr. Smith was transported by vehicle to Harlan ARH for his injuries.

 

**UPDATE**  (Evarts, Ky.) – On August 3, 2012 at approximately 12:05 p.m. Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan arrested Timothy Hughes, 24, of Evarts with the robbery that occurred on July 24, 2012 on U.S.119 in the Wallins Community of Harlan County.

Mr. Hughes is charged with Robbery 1st, Assault 2nd, and theft of a vehicle. He has being lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.

Investigation continues by Tpr. Jared Boggs. Det Kenny Abner also assisted with the arrest and investigation.
